Mezuzah
- The reason why we put a Mezuzah on the entrance to our home and on all the doors of our home is to be constantly reminded that HKB”H is one (Echad) and to except upon ourselves to do the Mitzvos happily and willingly.
- The Mezuzah reminds us that HKB”H is watching our actions and that HKB”H is protecting us.
- When you pass the Mezuzah you should look at the Mezuzah to remind yourself of the above.
- The Chofetz Chaim said it is a good custom for one to say when they pass the Mezuzah
“I Believe that HKB”H is one (Echad) and I except upon myself to do the Mitzvos happily and willingly” (You should try to say it once a day).
- The Minhag is to touch the Mezuzah of the front door with your right hand when you leave your home and again when you enter it and kiss your hand. Some people do it whenever they enter or leave a room.
- Some say when they leave their home in the morning the Posuk “Hashem Yishmor Zeise Uvoe Maetoh V’ad Olam ה’ ישמור צאתי ובואי מעתה ועד עולם “
- If you are going out of town when you leave your house you should put your hand on the Mezuzah and say a short Tefillah that you should have a safe and successful trip.
